FAQs
What is ILP?
ILP is a year-round, independent study program. Students have a flexible, part-time schedule similar to that of college students. It is not everyday, all day. It is homework driven.
How often will my child attend on campus?
It depends on how the student is scheduled. Students meet with their teacher one day a week for one hour. Math and computers require two hour blocks, two days a week. Each student has a unique schedule.
Who decides what classes my child will take?
Your child will be assigned to a Teacher of Record (TOR). The TOR will act as counselor and help plan your child’s academic schedule. The TOR will make sure that your child is meeting the graduation requirements.
Can my child attend college after they graduate from ILP?
Yes. The ILP college prep curriculum meets the UC system A-G requirements. Foreign language and lab science courses will be completed through Palomar College (or most community colleges). ILP students may attend community college while still in high school.
May an ILP student be on campus when he or she doesn’t have a class?
It depends on the student’s schedule. ILP students should not be on campus unless they have a class. Once the class is over, ILP students are not allowed to “hang out” on campus. Independent study laws apply.
May ILP students participate in sports and clubs?
Yes. ILP students are invited to participate in sports and clubs. A 2.5GPA is required for athletic eligibility as well as CTY, Robotics, ASB, Prom, etc……
Is ECHS accredited?
Yes. ECHS is a WASC accredited school. ECHS credits are transferable to any college or university. All teachers are credentialed.
What does performance-based mean?
ILP is performance based. That means if a student has three unexcused absences, or does not complete the homework packets, the student may be dropped. Students must have self-discipline and be motivated to make it through the program work. Students must earn a “C” on their homework or the will have to re-do the work.
How do we enroll?
Students must be tested in reading and math. Provide a copy of the student’s transcript and immunization record. If incoming freshman, provide 8th grade report card. Provide copies of any special education information. Behavior/SARB history – only enrolled with ILP Director’s approval. Do not drop your student from their current school until you know they will are officially enrolled at ECHS.
