Safety

FIRST considers Safety to be a key component of the FIRST Robotics Competition. All teams are asked to have a Safety Captain as part of the team structure, this individual may be identified via a badge, provided by FIRST at the Regional Competitions and Championship.

Team Safety is evaluated at each event by way of FIRST Safety Advisors, points are given for safe behaviors and practices. At the conclusion of each event, a Safety Award is given to the team who best exemplifies FIRST safety practices. To help teams understand the FIRST Safety Program, the FIRST Safety Manual provides information on the FIRST Safety Awareness and Recognition Program.
Safety is critical within FIRST and must be observed continuously by all participants. As a part of
the Safety Awareness and Recognition Program, teams are observed and evaluated at many
different levels and by many individuals at the event.

Safe practices at the competitions are required, and teams are urged to adopt safe habits throughout the entire competition season including during travel to and from events and while working in their shops at home, etc.
